Speaker Bio:

Devin is a BI consultant at Pragmatic Works Consulting. He authored the book Knight's 24-Hour Trainer: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Integration Services. Devin has spoken at past conferences like PASS, Code Camps and several SQL Saturday events. He is a contributing member to the Business Intelligence Special Interest Group (SIG) for PASS as a leader in the SSIS Focus Group. Making his home in Jacksonville, FL, Devin is the Vice President of the local users’ group (JSSUG).

Title: Extending Reporting Services with Custom Code
Abstract:

The Reporting Services expression language can be a powerful tool for customizing report data and layout, but often times you will find it is lacking functionality that is easily available in .Net. While this session is not designed to teach you .Net it will show you some commonly used .Net functions for Reporting Services. We will also talk about the difference between custom code that is embedded in a report and external assemblies imported into Reporting Services.

Speaker Bio:

Brian is a SQL Server author, columnist, and Microsoft MVP focusing primarily on SQL Server security. He is a contributing author for How to Cheat at Securing SQL Server 2005 (Syngress) and Professional SQL Server 2008 Administration (Wrox). Brian currently serves as a database administrator / architect for AgFirst Farm Credit Bank where he can concentrate on his passion: SQL Server.

Title: The Dirty Business of Auditing
Abstract:

Auditing is often a dirty word among DBAs because it equates to more work with little perceived business value. However, auditing is a necessary evil for most businesses and it usually falls to the DBA to ensure SQL Server is properly audited. In this session we'll look at what the operating system and SQL Server provide for us in order to meet the requirements of internal and external auditors, regulatory legislation, and even overbearing system owners who want to know everything about what's going on in their application. We'll consider what tools to use to quickly implement the properly level of auditing to meet the need.

Kendal Van Dyke is a practiced IT professional with over a decade of experience in SQL Server development and administration. Kendal is currently a Senior Technical Consultant with Insource Technology in Houston, TX, where he helps companies keep their SQL Servers running in high gear. Kendal is also a Microsoft MVP for SQL Server, President of the PASS chapter MagicPASS in Orlando, and serves on the PASS Board of Directors

Title: Building Your Own SQL Server Virtual Playground
Abstract:

As the number of SQL Server versions and features grow over time so does the the difficulty in maintaining a set of tools for working with all of them on your local machine. Add in that some features require multiple physical instances and suddenly a single installation isn't enough. Need to quickly switch between versions and editions of SQL Server? Want to learn how to set up clustering? Or maybe you want to try out the latest SQL 2012 release candidate...virtualization offers a convenient way to do any or all of these. In this session we'll show you how by covering the fundamentals of desktop virtualization and demonstrating how to set up a virtual playground on your own machine.

Speaker Bio:

Andy Warren is an independent consultant specializing in SQL Server based in Orlando. Over the course of his career he has written more than 100 technical articles, was a founder of SQLServerCentral.com, relaunched the Orlando SQL Server User Group (oPASS), served for three years on the PASS Board of Directors, and has been a SQL MVP since 2008. He blogs most days at SQLAndy on a wide range of topics and spends a lot of time teaching and thinking about professional development and mentoring.

Abstract:

Plan the work and work the plan. Are you doing that when it comes to your professional development? Few of us have a formal approach to professional development and that usually means it gets pushed down the list as other things in life happen. This session is designed to get you thinking about all aspects of your career and from there moves into a discussion about time and money - how much of each are you willing to spend to get where you want to go? At the end of this presentation you'll be ready for spend a couple quiet hours charting all the things you want to do, and then figuring out which ones you really want to do.
